Vasectomy

Vasectomy Research

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure that produces sterilization in a man. Vasectomy is an operation that takes only about twenty minutes, that only requires a local anesthesia and is done in the doctor's office. The doctor makes a small incision in the scrotum and cuts out a section of the tubes that carry sperm from the testes. Then the surgery concludes after the doctor closes the open ends of the tubes. However, sometimes this procedure is done while the doctor is performing a different type of surgery such as a transurethral resection of the prostate.

The man does not immediately become sterile at the conclusion of the surgery as it may take several ejaculations because many sperm are stored in the seminal vesicles. After two ejaculations without sperm the man is considered sterile.
