Urinalysis
Urinalysis Research
A urinalysis is a test of the urine to detect indications of certain conditions and diseases. There are many tests that can be made from urine. For example, if there is sugar in the urine it could be an indication of diabetes. Many of the tests are simple and can be tested with a dip stick in a doctor's office or office laboratory. Other tests may require a more comprehensive laboratory, but urine yields a wealth of information that is invaluable for the doctor in diagnosis of many illnesses.
Listed below are different substances that may be detected in the urine:
- Protein that could indicate kidney disease.
- Sugar that could indicate diabetes.
- Blood that could indicate a disease in the urinary tract.
- Nitrites that could indicate an infection, because an increase in nitrites usually indicates an increase in bacteria.
- Acidity could be indicated in the urine.
- Cells and metabolites in the urine could be examined for other adverse conditions.
