Stridor Research
Stridor is a condition that occurs during breathing by someone who has a partial block in the throat. The sound resembles a crowing sound and is the result of airflow through a narrowed upper airway. This could be an infection or an object inhaled by children, but in adults it may be a tumor or edema in the upper airway.
Stridor could be a symptom of a dangerous condition when the blockage prevents the person from breathing. In such a condition emergency treatment is required by the doctor to insert a tube through the person's mouth or nose to provide life saving oxygen past the blockage for the person. If necessary the tube may have to be placed directly into the trachea.
