Abscesses usually infect in the hair follicles from bacteria on the face, neck or arms. However, infections can begin on the skin on any place of the body that has an injury that breaks the skin. Abscess bacteria are so contagious that one could be on the skin and penetrate at the point if injury. The abscess can cause a severe pain, with tenderness, pus in the center and a feeling of fluid in the area. The skin around the abscess must be kept clean to keep from infecting the surrounding area which if infected could cause a severe case of cellulite.

Blood Sugar, liver problems
A severe abscess can be treated successfully under a doctor's care by lancing the abscess and draining the pus. All pus must be removed from the abscess and if there is a small remainder the doctor can remove it with a salt solution. If the pus is completely eliminated from the abscess, no more treatment is needed. Abscesses located near the nose should not be lanced, but should be under a doctor's care for oral antibiotics to prevent the danger of a brain infection.
