Underarm Boil
Underarm boil may not affect liver problems or hepatitis.
Abscesses are infections of the skin by staphylococcal bacteria. They most commonly appear on the face, neck or arms, but sometimes on the breast or buttocks. The infection is usually in hair follicles because the bacteria must have an entry through the skin. Abscesses are much like pimples but much larger, are tender and have pus in the center. Boils infections are extremely contagious and could infect a large group which could be teenagers in an athletic camp where all use the same quarters, dining area, and toilet facilities. Along with this would be poor and careless hygiene. Carbuncles are clusters of abscesses, but are much more severe and capable of fever and pain far above single abscesses. The favorite location for carbuncles is on the back of the neck. A severe abscess can be treated under a doctor's care by lancing the abscess and draining the pus. The
abscess must be carefully checked to make sure that all pus is removed. Small amounts of the remainder can be removed with a salt solution. If the abscess is completely free of all pus, no further treatment is necessary. Abscesses located near the nose must have oral antibiotics to avoid brain infection.

The best prevention for abscesses and also to prevent infections to others is strict hygiene. The skin must be kept clean with soap and a soap with anti-bacterial substances will provide the most protection. If it is only a single abscess it can be eliminated by moist heat with no squeezing or other treatment needed. Abscesses usually infect in the hair follicles, but infections may begin on any part of the body if there is any kind of injury that breaks the skin. Because the infection of an abscess is contagious, it may be present on the skin and penetrate at the point of injury. If an abscess develops, the skin around the abscess must be kept clean to keep the abscess from infecting the surrounding area which if infected could cause a serious infection which could develop into a dangerous conditon of cellulite.
