A single abscess can be cleared up with nothing more than moist heat with no squeezing or additonal treatment. A severe abscess can be successfully treated by a doctor who can lance the abscess and then drain the pus. All pus must be removed but if there is a small remainder the doctor can remove it with a salt solution. If all pus is complely removed, no further treatment is needed. If the absscess is near the nose it should not be lanced. Instead, the doctor should treat it with oral antibiotics. This remedy will avoid the danger of brain infections which can happen to boils in the vicinity of the nose.
