The bacteria search for a break in the skin which usually infects in the hair follicles. Boils are like pimples, but much larger, are tender, and have pus in the center. Abscess infections are extremely contagious and could infect an entire group such as teenagers at an athletic camp where all use the same facilities with careless or poor hygiene. Carbuncles are clusters of abscesses and are capable of much more fever and pain than single abscesses. The favored location for carbuncles is the back of the neck. The best prevention for boils and also to prevent infection to others is strict hygiene. The skin must be kept clean with soap, but a soap with anti-bacterial substances will provide the most protection. A single abscess can be cleared up with moist heat and no further treatment such as squeezing is necessary, If an abscess is near the nose, it should always be treated with oral antibiotics to avoid the danger of brain damage. Abscesses uaually infect from bacteria on the skin in hair follicles on the face, neck or arms but abscesses can infect on the skin on any part of the body if there is an injury that breaks the skin. Because the abscess is contagious, it may be present on the skin and penetrate at the point of injury. The abscess can cause severe pain with tenderness, pus in the center and a feeling of fluid in the area. The skin around the abscess must be kept clean to keep from infecting the surrounding area which infected could develop into a severe condition of cellulite. A severe abscess can be successfully treated by a doctor who can lance the abscess, then drain the pus. All pus must be removed from the abscess and if there is a small remainder, the doctor can clear it with a salt solution. If the abscess is completely free of pus, no more treatment will be needed because the abscess will clear up. Boil photo will not afect liver problems or blood sugar.
