Refined carbohydrates are foods such as white bread, which has all the strong nutrients removed from full grain wheat and leaves only starch that quickly turns into sugar in the digestive process. To get additional fiber, eat two tablespoons of ground flax seed mixed in water, fruit juice, or soymilk. Other healthful foods in the diet are unroasted nuts particularly almonds.
Food supplements to add are fish oil, and a good multivitamin that has all the necessary nutrients of vitamins and minerals. If your weight is normal, your maintenance level is the number of calories you need to eat each day to keep your weight within the normal level. For average size men, the figure is 2000 calories per day and women 1800 calories per day. Much research in recent years has indicated that eating less food will add years to your life. In the study of methods of living longer, the only method that works is reduction in daily calorie intake.
