Muscle Cramps Research
Muscle cramps are sudden, involuntary, sometimes painful contractions of a muscle or groups of muscles. This is usually a temporary condition and doesn't require any treatment. It can happen during exercise or after a heavy meal following vigorous exercise. It can occur because after eating the blood flows to the stomach and related areas and away from the muscles involved in the exercise. Muscle cramps commonly happen at night and are painful while at the same time disturbing sleep.
Although cramped muscles usually do not require any special treatment, if the condition often occurs there are various treatments that will help. Cramped muscles are common in healthy people who exercise; however, the cause could be from missing necessary nutrients in the diet. A supplement of a good multivitamin would be beneficial. Avoiding exercise for at least two hours after a meal also could be a preventative and stretching exercises will help before beginning vigorous exercises.
