Lichen Planus Research
The mysterious Lichen Planus occurs
without warning, the cause is not known, and it has no cure. It will
heal without treatment but it may recur in a short time or even
several years later. Lichen Planus is a skin condition that is not
contagious and has many symptoms that imitate other conditions. It
can usually be identified by its frequent recurrence and appearance.
Lichen Planus is a disease that affects
the upper layers of the skin and is an itching rash that can
sometimes become severe. It usually starts slowly with scaly raised
patches on the skin, but it can also start suddenly. It could
promptly heal spontaneously or it may continue for months or several
years. The bumps that appear as the rash are angular and most are
violet in color. The face is seldom affected with the disease, but
it can occur in the mouth, or almost any place on the body, including
the vagina or penis. Mouth sores can be particularly troublesome and
can occur before the rash. Mouth sores are blue and form in a line.
Although mouth sores usually heal up without treatment, they can be
severe if the infection is deep. There is also a danger of cancer
from long standing mouth sores.
There us no cure for Lichen Planus, but
severe cases should be under the care of a dermatologist who can
prescribe drugs for relief from itching and help for other
complications. Avoid drugs, chemicals or spicy foods that can
irritate the condition.
An article from Wikipedia, the free
encyclopedia, revealed encouraging results from a study of a
treatment with homeopathy by Dr. Rajesh Shah, M.D. at Homeopathy
India Foundation, India. The study was from 800 cases of dermal and
oral Lichen Planus. The homeopathy claims to be controlling the
auto-immune activity underlying the pathogenesis of Lichen Planus.
