Jet Lag

Jet Lag Research

Air travel through several time zones can cause psychological as well as physical stress in many ways. The change in time zones in only a few hours interrupts life long habits of eating and sleeping. There are many other situations that also have to be considered with time changes, such as the rescheduling of medication. All of the problems that may develop can be solved by sound planning a few days before the trip. Planning will make a much smoother transition from one time zone to another. Some of the changes could be made a day or so before the trip such as going to sleep earlier or later to match the time zone in the final destination.

Regardless of whether or not certain changes are made before the trip begins, advance planning on what needs to be done will help, even if it has to be implemented after the arrival to the new time zone. Many people do nothing and the adjustment on the arrival to the new destination is still satisfactory if advance planning has been done for the new environment to avoid any surprises.
