Impotence

Impotence Research

If a man is incapable of developing an erection and sustaining it long enough for satisfactory intercourse, it is a condition of impotence. Impotence can be caused by a physical condition or a mental condition. The first step in treatment should be to adopt a healthy lifestyle of exercise, weight control and proper nutrition. Bad habits such as smoking, poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle, and alcoholism should be abandoned. If further treatment is required a thorough examination by a doctor should be made to determine the cause. There are many causes of impotence which include atherosclerosis, a blood vessel disorder, drugs, alcoholism, any condition that impedes adequate blood flow to the penis and many others. After the doctor has all the questions and made his examination he can make recommendations for treatment. If it is physical, the underlying cause will be treated. If psychological, it will require advice or medication from a psychiatrist.

There are many options for treatment which include drugs that develop erections, various mechanical devices, surgical implants, counseling and many others No matter what treatment is taken, a healthy lifestyle will be beneficial.
