Hysterectomy Research
Cancer of the uterus is sometimes called uterine cancer because it begins in the uterine lining. This cancer often spreads to many areas. The earliest indication of this condition is excessive bleeding of the uterus. Because a significant proportion of women who have severe bleeding get cancer of the uterus, any excessive bleeding should immediately be evaluated by a doctor.
After the doctor makes needed tests and has diagnosed the cancer as uterine cancer, treatment begins at once. If a uterine cancer is diagnosed before it has spread beyond the uterus, the preferred treatment is a hysterectomy which is a surgical removal of the uterus. This almost always cures the cancer. There are many other options to continue treatment after surgery if needed. Other stages of the cancer has many options including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Uterine cancer has a high rate of survival: the majority of affected people are free of the disease after five years.
