Hormone Therapy
Hormone therapy is the treatment of
medical conditions with hormones. This differs from Hormone
Replacement Therapy in that HRT (hormone replacement therapy) uses
artificial drugs for treatment; but hormone therapy uses genuine
hormones.
Hormone therapy is used for many
conditions and must be done under a doctor’s care. The conditions
include Turner’s syndrome, Klinefelter’s syndrome, thyroid
dysfunction and testosterone deficiency. Other conditions may be
treated with growth hormones. The most common condition eliciting
hormone therapy is menopause and the discomfort that comes from
problems associated with it like hot flashes.
In recent years, the use of hormones
substantially decreased because of dangerous side effects revealed in
large studies. These studies appear to have reduced the use of
hormones, but women are taking other drugs instead that may be even
more dangerous. A woman considering hormones or other treatment for
menopause problems should get complete information from the doctor on
the benefits and dangers of all options of treatment. Also,
consideration should be given to the great benefits of a healthy
lifestyle of nutrition and exercise which has no dangerous side
affects. For information on healthy nutrition and exercise, click on
