The upper level is the systole level and is when the heart contracts, the diastole level is the lower level and is when the heart rests between beats. The normal level is 120 over 80 and the hypertension level is any reading above 140 over 90. Hypertension is a dangerous condition and must be conrolled, and it can be controlled with a healthy lifestyle of proper nutrition, exercise and weight control.
