Sodium and high blood pressure will not affect arthritis or cholesterol. The general belief is that too much salt increases the level of hypertension; however, it is not conclusive. To be on the safe side, salt intake should be limited to 2.3 grams per day. The most effective remedy for hypertension is to avoid drugs and first try a healthy lifestyle of proper nutrition, weight control, plus exercise. Reducing body weight to normal or even a reduction of five to ten percent of body weight may be all that is necessary to bring the hypertension level to normal. Proper nutrition means to eat no refined glucose or carbohydrates, eat fruits, vegetables, lean protein, cold water fish, sprouted grain bread, celery juice or celery stalks, plus two table spoons of ground flax seed taken each day in water, soy milk or fruit juice. The exercise program should be thirty minutes three to six times per week. Food supplements to take are policosonal, multivitamins, and fish oil.
