Gestational hypertension is a condition in which the woman has a combination of hypertension and protein in the urine or retention of fluid and is called preeclampsia. This is a serious condition and should be under a doctor's care. The treatment is usually bed rest and the diet should have the normal amount of salt so the woman will drink more water. If the condition is mild bed rest may be all it takes, but if the condition does not improve promptly, she may need to be hospitalized and if necessary given medication intravenously to speed up the recovery.
