Treatment begins with bed rest and normal salt intake plus more water. This often is enough to bring down the level of hypertension. If this doesn't work, the woman may have to be hospitalized and given drugs. The drugs may have to be given intravenously for more effectiveness because the hypertension has to be lowered before the baby should be delivered.
