High Blood Pressure

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is above normal. It usually has no symptoms in the early years until a complication develops that damages a body part. High blood pressure accelerates the chances of a heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure. Two values of blood pressure are recorded when checked. The systole level is when the heart contracts, and is the higher reading; the diastole level is the lower reading, and it occurs when the heart rests between beats. Until recently, blood pressure above 140 over 90 was considered to be above normal, but now new guide lines have been issued that any reading above l20 over 80 is above normal. Blood pressure changes during the day. It is usually lower in the morning than in the evening. It is higher after exercise; it is higher after having food or drink; it tends to get higher with increasing age.

There are many drugs that will lower blood pressure - some with dangerous side affects. To begin to lower blood pressure, the best choice is a healthy life style and the avoidance of dangerous side affects of drugs. If you are a smoker, quit now, as nothing will help more than quitting, because smoking narrows the arteries and increases plaque, which restricts the flowing of blood, thus elevating the blood pressure. Proper nutrition will be of great benefit as a remedy for high blood pressure. Proper nutrition means cutting down on sweets, or use Stevia or Xylitol as sweeteners, but no aspartame or anything equal. Eat no refined sugar or refined carbohydrates; eat fruits and vegetables with plenty of potassium, cold water fish, lean protein and fiber. An excellent source of fiber is ground-up flax seed. Put two table spoonfuls of ground flax seed in water, fruit juice, or soy milk. If you use fruit juice, it must not be made from concentrate, as concentrated fruit juice is loaded with sugar. Taking flax seed has many other benefits since it will lower cholesterol by as much as twenty percent while lowering the LDL bad cholesterol and increasing the HDL good cholesterol. Flax seed is also a cancer fighter and it will eliminate constipation - all this from two tablespoonfuls a day from the "miracle food" of flax seed. The diet should include a good multivitamin with all necessary vitamins and minerals, a fish oil supplement, and policosonal - a supplement made from sugar cane, which, as much research shows, lowers cholesterol, tryglycerides, and high blood pressure. Take one half -cup of ground celery, celery juice, or celery stalks daily. Celery relaxes and cleans out plaque from the arteries.
