Hearing Loss

Hearing Loss Research

Hearing loss is caused primarily by two things. A mechanical problem in the ear that blocks the sound is one cause; the other is from damage to the auditory nerves which deteriorate pathways to the brain. A thorough examination by an audiologist will be an effective procedure to determine the cause and recommend a treatment that will restore the hearing as much as possible.

The treatment depends upon the problem, and sometimes just removing wax from the ear is all that it takes. Many times, however, wax is removed with no improvement in hearing. There are few treatments that will restore hearing and the solution for most people will be hearing aids. There are a number of options for hearing aids that are of great help. In recent years much progress has been made with hearing aids that are more attractive, smaller and extremely effective. The audiologist will conduct various tests to help select the right hearing aid for the maximum hearing, comfort and appearance.
