Doppler Ultrasound Scanning
Doppler ultrasound scanning is a painless method of scanning the major
arteries for blood flow in the arteries to prevent strokes or other
dangers of blockage. For example, intermittent claudication is checked
for blood flow in the large artery of the leg. It is an indication of a
peripheral arterial disease that is life threatening if not treated.
Peripheral arterial disease may produce blood clots that can go all the
way to the heart and cause a stroke or heart attack.
In recent years ultrasound scanning has been expanded to cover many
areas of usefulness such as tracking the fetus when a woman is
pregnant. From the scanning, the baby or babies can be tracked and
pictured throughout the pregnancy. All areas of scanning are safe,
relatively inexpensive and will uncover many life threatening
conditions in time for treatment.
