Cyanosis

Cyanosis Research

Cyanosis is a condition in which the skin of the hands and feet become blue from lack of oxygen in the blood. The hands and feet being at the extreme end of the circulatory system sometimes have poor circulation resulting in an inadequate supply of oxygen thus causing the blue look. Oxygen rich blood is blood red, but lack of oxygen causes blood to be blue. Cyanosis that develops throughout the circulatory system can be caused by many conditions such as lung diseases, heart conditions and many others.

Treatment for cyanosis in the hands and feet rarely need any treatment but cyanosis in other areas may require treatment dependent upon the severity and extent of the condition. Usually oxygen is the initial treatment. A healthy lifestyle of exercise, weight control, and nutrition will be extremely beneficial in treatment and prevention. Also eliminate bad habits such as smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, and poor diet.
