Colic

Colic Research

Colic is a temporary condition in which a baby has periods of irritability and crying from abdominal discomfort, but the cause is unknown. It usually begins when the infant is a few days old and continues frequently until the infant is three to four months old. Some babies cry continually, but with most it develops at consistent times. Colic does not seem to affect the health of infants since they have good appetite and weight gain.

A colicky baby responds to being held or rocked. If an infant likes to suck, it will be content if given a pacifier. Some infants might require a sedative to settle down, but with most infants it is a temporary condition which discontinues after about three months.
