Lipoproteins in the arteries mainly consists of two elements. The high density lipoproteins are the good lipoproteins(HDL), and the low density proteins are the bad lipoproteins (LDL). The bad LDL lipoproteins clog up the arteries, and the good HDL lipoproteins clean up the arteries.

Cholesterol, high blood pressure
To get a record of the level of lipoproteins in the arterial system requires a laboratory examination of a fluid sample from the arterial system. The record will show total lipoproteins, the amount of HDL and the amount of LDL. The goal is not to get the total lipoproteins at the lowest level but to get the highest ratio of HDL to total lipoproteins. The most satisfactory level is total lipoproteins 160 to 200 milligrams with more than 25 percent of the total in HDL lipoproteins.
