Cholesterol

Cholesterol may have an affect on arthritis or blood sugar. Lipoproteins are a waxy substance that is one of the two major fats that the body must have and the body produces all that it needs. Lipoproteins are mainly composed of two elements; LDL is the bad element and HDL is the good element. The goal is not to have the combined liproteins as low as possible, but to lower LDL lipoproteins to l30 milligrams or less and increase the HDL lipoproteins to 40 milligrams or more. The combined lipoproteins must not get too low because then it is just as dangerous as one too high since just as many heart attacks occur in too low a level as in a higher level. Cholesterol may have an affect on arthritis or blood sugar.

The normal range of the lipoproteins should be l40 to 200 milligrams and a level of 200 milligrams is satisfactory as long as the good HDL is about twenty five percent of the total. Statin drugs will lower the lipoprotein level, but should be avoided because of dangerous side affects. There are many treatments that will lower the level without the dangerous side affects of drugs. Weight control, proper nutrition, exercise and certain food supplements will effectively and safely lower the lipoprotein level within the normal range. Cholesterol may have an affect on arthritis or blood sugar.
