Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer Research

Breast cancer is classified under many types and conditions and the treatments are varied depending on many factors. This article will summarize the various kinds of breast cancer and reports, but because of the multiple conditions the only adequate information must be obtained from a doctor who has thoroughly examined the patient, knows all the symptoms, has a medical history, knows all the complications and other factors that may have a bearing on the cancer.

The extent of the spread of the cancer and the tissue in which it spreads has a bearing on the classification of the cancer. Most breast cancers start in the milk glands or milk ducts. This type may be early to detect because it may cause a lump to form that can be felt by a woman who checks her breast periodically for indications of cancer. This is called ductal carcinoma and sometimes is detected early from mammography before a lump develops and can be removed by surgery. Cancer which starts in the milk glands is lobular carcinoma and is found ordinarily on mammography also. Prevention of cancer is helped by a healthy lifestyle of weight control, exercise and nutrition. Women at high risk of cancer should have regular breast examinations and regular mammograms. Symptoms of breast cancer do not start early so frequent breast examinations may detect an early cancer. The ones that are detected early are the ones easiest to cure.
