Bone Tumors Research

Although most bone tumors are benign which is non-cancerous, some are malignant which is cancerous. The bone tumor may originate in the bone or it could spread from other parts of the body. Cancers that originate in the bone are called primary cancers and ones that spread to the bone are called metatastic cancers. A tumor is a lump or mass of tissue that forms from abnormal cells, and if it is benign, it is not life threatening, but if cancerous it is extremely dangerous unless prompt care is provided. People with a bone tumor should be under a doctor's care for a diagnosis and prompt treatment if necessary. The most common symptom is pain in the bone area, which is sometimes a dull ache, and some may have fever. There are some people with a tumor that have no symptoms but discover the tumor by a noticeable lump. To get a correct diagnosis requires a biopsy so that the tumor tissue can examined under a microscope.

Benign tumors may not need any treatment as most of them will clear up in a matter of time'; however, they should be checked from time to time by a doctor to make sure they are not developing complications that need to be treated. In some cases a benign tumor may become cancerous which requires immediate treatment from the doctor. As mentioned above all malignant bone cancers are extremely dangerous and early treatment is absolutely necessary. The doctor in charge of the case and associates after a thorough examination of all relevant factors will outline all the options available to the patient who will be in a position to make the decision for the most effective treatment.
