Avoidant Personality Disorder
Avoidant personality disorder is in the class of personality disorders
characterized by constant, extreme fear, and apprehension. The person
feels socially inept and inferior to others. The person also tends to
be a loner and does not seek friends or intimate relations with others
for fear of rejection.
People with avoidant personal disorder are affectionate and want to
be accepted, but they are uncomfortable because they do not have the
ability to relate to others. This differs from people with borderline
personality disorder who become angry and violent from criticism.
People with avoidant personality appear shy and timid which is much
like social phobia.
This disorder may be helped by drugs, and a combination of
psychotherapy and cognitive behavior counseling. It may take all three
to be effective.
Regardless of the treatment selected, a healthy lifestyle of proper
nutrition and exercise will not only help this disorder but almost any
health problem. For more information on a healthy lifestyle, please
