Ankylosing Spondylitis
Ankylosing Spondylitis is a disease in which connective tissue has pain and inflammation, usually including the large joints and spine. The cause is not known but it does run in families, suggesting a genetic causation and tendency. Symptoms at times vary from one person to another and sometimes disappear for a short time before coming back. Back pain is a primary symptom because the spine is the principal source of pain and inflammation.
With most people the disease does not develop into serious complications and they can lead a normal life. Treatment is directed toward relief of pain plus prevention of spinal deformities and posture. All drugs when necessary should be under a doctor's direction. Nutrition and exercise have been helpful in many cases.
